Northants to let Middlebrook go

Northamptonshire have announced that veteran all-rounder James Middlebrook will not be offered a contract for the 2015 season, despite him being their leading LV= County Championship scorer this year with 777 runs before this week’s last game with Sussex.

The 37-year-old, who also has their third-most championship wickets (28) with his off-spin during a campaign ending in relegation, joined Northants in 2010.

Bresnan missing for champions

By Rob Barnett

LV= County Champions Yorkshire are without the injured Tim Bresnan but have otherwise named a strong squad for the visit of Somerset in the last round of matches, starting tomorrow.

The White Rose clinched the title 10 days ago and were not in action last week. They have included England batsmen Joe Root and Gary Ballance in a 13-man party.

Bresnan has suffered a torn pectoral muscle so Matthew Fisher and Andrew Hodd come in to the squad as cover.

Old Trafford England tickets on open sale

Tickets for the international matches at Emirates Old Trafford in 2015 have gone on general sale – and for a limited time there will be a £10 discount applied to each ticket.

This summer Alastair Cook’s men registered crushing victories against Sri Lanka in the Royal London one-day international and versus India in the fourth Investec Test at Emirates Old Trafford.

Next year New Zealand and Australia will provide the opposition as England aim to continue their good form at the home of Lancashire.

Breese signs off with fairytale win

The 38-year-old’s 3-30 helped to skittle Warwickshire for 165, after Durham won an important toss on a murky day at Lord’s, before the north-east county embarked on a nervy chase that set the scene for Breese to be the match-winner.
