England Women have made the shortlist for the Team of the Year in the 2014 Sunday Times and Sky Sports Sportswomen of the Year Awards.
The British public will have the chance to vote for Charlotte Edwards ’ side after another exceptional year in which they retained the Ashes with a 10-8 victory over Australia , before finishing runners-up in the World T20 and recording limited-overs series wins over India and South Africa this summer.
The success of the team was such that the captain was nominated for the coveted 2014 ICC People’s Choice Award, becoming the first female cricketer to receive the honour.
Edwards’ outfit will go up against the England rugby union team, the Great Britain 4 x 100 athletics relay squad and rowers Helen Glover and Heather Stanning.
The winner will be decided by the British public, who have the opportunity to vote online. Seven further awards will be decided by an independent panel of judges.
The Awards, in their 27th year, celebrate the outstanding contribution to sport made by elite performers, coaches, administrators, community volunteers and inspirational female figures.
