Mohammad Hafeez’s second straight unbeaten hundred gave Pakistan one-day series victory over Sri Lanka in the United Arab Emirates.
Having hit 140 on Sunday, Hafeez’s 113 from number three saw Pakistan chase 226 with eight wickets and 53 balls to spare at Abu Dhabi, earning a 3-1 lead with a game to go in the five-match rubber.
Once Angelo Mathews bowled Sharjeel Khan for 13 with a slower ball, Hafeez added 84 alongside Ahmed Shehzad.
On 44 Shezhad was held at slip off Suranga Lakmal, but Hafeez and Sohaib Maqsood shared an unbroken 111, Maqsood contributing 46.
Umar Gul defied Mathews’ decision to bat first by reducing Sri Lanka to 36 for three in the eighth over.
Kumar Sangakkara and 24-year-old international debutant Ashan Priyanjan rallied with 51 and 74 respectively.
However, aside from the fourth-wicket pair, Mathews’ 38 and 27 from Kithuruwan Vithanage were the only scores of note as spinner Saeed Ajmal took 4-39 to dismiss Sri Lanka in 48.5 overs.
