Zimbabwe paceman Kyle Jarvis has retired from international cricket and signed for Lancashire on a three-year deal as a non-overseas player, subject to registration.
The 24-year-old right-armer has played in eight Tests, taking 30 wickets at an average of 31.73. He has 27 wickets in his 24 one-day internationals and 10 in nine Twenty20 internationals.
Jarvis made his senior international debut in 2009, having been fast-tracked into the national side after the appointment of former national captain Heath Streak as bowling coach.
Lancashire cricket director Mike Watkinson said: “The opportunity to sign someone of Kyle’s age and potential does not arise very often, and we feel he will be a great addition to our bowling attack for many years to come.”
Jarvis, who hopes to qualify for England, said: “I am delighted to be joining Lancashire on a three-year contract. Playing county cricket has been an ambition of mine for a number of years and the opportunity to forge a career in England was one that was too good to miss.
“I have loved my time playing for Zimbabwe, and I am extremely grateful for the part they have played in my development, but I feel the time is right to take on a new challenge and a new career.
“Reaching this decision has been an incredibly difficult process, but I intend to make a home for myself in Manchester and hope my stay at Lancashire far outlasts this initial contract.
“My future is with Lancashire and in the county game with an end goal of potentially becoming English qualified in the future.
“This club is one with great heritage and history and I hope to be able to contribute significantly to its future with the ball in hand and I am excited about helping the club’s quest for silverware in coming seasons.”
