South Africa’s batsmen turned on the style once again as Ireland were beaten by 201 runs in their World Cup Pool B clash.
Following AB de Villiers’ record-breaking innings against West Indies, Hashim Amla hit 159 and put on 247 for the second wicket with Faf du Plessis, who scored a century of his own.
Rilee Rossouw and David Miller added an unbroken 110 in the last 8.3 overs to power the Proteas to 411 for four in Canberra.
Ireland were never in reach despite 58 from Andy Balbirnie and 48 from Kevin O’Brien. Tail-enders Max Sorensen and George Dockrell at least lifted them beyond 200 before they were bowled out for 210, Kyle Abbott taking 4-21 and Morne Morkel 3-34.
