Cook tons up early on day two

Alastair Cook wasted little time in moving from his overnight 95 to three figures before retiring out on 101 against a St Kitts and Nevis XI on day two of England’s first warm-up game on their Caribbean tour.

The captain played the day’s opening ball for four to third man via a controlled edge and in the next over punched two runs off the back foot to raise his first England ton since November 2013 when he made 154 retired out in an Ashes warm-up versus Australia A in Hobart.

Cook and Gary Ballance resumed today with England on 181 for one, a score aided by Jonathan Trott’s 72, in reply to the hosts’ 59 all out at Warner Park in Basseterre.

Today is the last day of this match, which will immediately be followed by another two-day fixture versus the same opponents tomorrow and Thursday. The first Test of three with West Indies starts a week today.
