ODI and T20 squads announced

England selectors today announced a 16-man squad to face Australia in the five-match ODI series commencing Sunday January 12 in Melbourne and a 15-man squad for the three-match T20 series that follows.

Six members of the ODI squad are not involved in the current Test series and they will begin their preparation for the first ODI on January 5 in Melbourne ahead of the remainder of the squad arriving on January 8.

Jos Buttler has been named in the England ODI and Twenty20 squad to face Australia in the new year

Of those Danny Briggs, Jos Buttler and Chris Jordan have been based in Brisbane and Perth on the England Performance Programme throughout November and December. Ravi Bopara, Jos Buttler and Eoin Morgan will all be playing in the domestic T20 competition in Australia in the build up to the series.

England captain Alastair Cook, Gary Ballance, Ian Bell, Danny Briggs, Tim Bresnan and Stuart Broad return to the squad having not taken part in the most recent ODI series between the two teams in September.

Geoff Miller said: “We have an important period of limited overs cricket coming up with an ICC World T20 in Bangladesh in March and we are just over a year away from the ICC Cricket World Cup in New Zealand and Australia. These two series against Australia allow valuable opportunities for players to push for places in both squads and given the rivalry between the sides both series will no doubt be keenly contested.”
