Wright sticks with Stars

Sussex all-rounder Luke Wright has continued his affiliation with Big Bash League franchise Melbourne Stars by signing a three-year contract extension.

On the same day the Stars announced Nottinghamshire seamer Ben Hilfenhaus as their latest capture, Wright was also retained.

The 29-year-old, named Sussex Sharks’ captain for this season’s NatWest T20 Blast last week, has already spent four years with the Stars, who are now coached by former New Zealand skipper Stephen Fleming.

Wright is the Stars’ leading run-scorer, hitting 856 in 33 matches at a strike rate of 137.84, including a 44-ball century against Hobart Hurricanes in the inaugural tournament.

Among the 12 players already contracted to the Stars for the fifth edition of the Big Bash are Kevin Pietersen, Durham all-rounder John Hastings, new Yorkshire signing Glenn Maxwell, former Essex batsman Rob Quiney and ex-Nottinghamshire all-rounder David Hussey.
